k2tog: Decrease one by inserting right needle into two stitches at same time, through front of loop, and knitting two stitches together. Results in a right-leaning decrease.
kf&b: Increase one by knitting into front and then back of same stitch before dropping stitch from left needle. Creates a horizontal bar to left of increase.
ktbl: Knit through back of loop by inserting right needle into next stitch from front right to back left and then knitting stitch. Results in twisted knit stitch.
LH: Left-hand, as in left-hand needle
LLI: Increase one by inserting left needle into top of stitch two stitches below first stitch on right needle and knitting lifted loop. Creates a left-leaning increase.
m1l: Increase one by picking up horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch (inserting left needle from front to back), then knitting strand through back of loop, twisting stitch. Creates a left-leaning increase.
m1l pwise: On a wrong-side row, increase one by picking up horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch (inserting left needle from front to back), then purling strand through back of loop. Creates a left-leaning increase on public side of fabric.
m1o: Increase one by picking up horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch (inserting left needle from front to back), then knitting strand through front of loop. Creates a small hole below increase.
m1r: Increase one by picking up horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch (inserting left needle from back to front), then knitting strand through front of loop, twisting stitch. Creates a right-leaning increase.
m1r pwise: On a wrong-side row, increase one by picking up horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch (inserting left needle from back to front), then purling strand through front of loop. Creates a right-leaning increase on public side of fabric.
p: Purl
psso: Pass slipped stitch on right needle over top of first stitch on right needle, dropping slipped stitch off of needle.
ptbl: Purl through back of loop by inserting right needle into next stitch from back left to front right and then purling stitch. Results in twisted purl stitch.
RH: Right-hand, as in right-hand needle
RLI: Increase one by inserting right needle into top of stitch below next stitch on left needle. Transfer this loop to left needle and knit the lifted loop, then knit stitch on left needle as normal. Creates a right-leaning increase.
RS: Right side
ssk: Decrease one by slipping two stitches knitwise, one at a time. Return both stitches to left needle and then knit two together through back of loop. Results in a left-slanting decrease.
ssp: Decrease one by slipping two stitches knitwise, one at a time. Return both stitches to left needle and then purl two together through back of loop. Results in a right-slanting decrease on side worked. Typically worked on wrong side, in which case decrease appears as a left-slanting decrease when viewed on right side of fabric.
sspo: Decrease one by slipping one stitch knitwise, knitting one stitch, then passing slipped stitch over knitted stitch and off right needle. Results in a left-slanting decrease.
WS: Wrong side
wyib: “With yarn in back” – work next stitch with working yarn behind fabric.
wyif: “With yarn in front” – work next stitch with working yarn in front of fabric.
yo: “Yarnover” – bring yarn to front if it is not already there, then pass yarn over top of right needle to back of work. If next stitch is a purl stitch, pass yarn under right needle to front of work, forming loop on needle. If next stitch is a knit stitch, leave yarn at back of work.
